In the past week, Bamboo Health has done a few things. Firstly, we attended a networking session in Richmond Hill on the 20th of February, where we met a handful of people. There are some great businesses out there that will provide great use as future contacts. The networking session started at 11:30 -1:30. We had time to mingle and talk to others before lunch, then we had time to sit down, eat lunch, and we each had “45 seconds” to talk about our business. Then, there were some guest speakers, who got to talk about their business for 5-10 minutes. After that, we networked a bit more… It felt more like a big rush and you’re trying to sell yourself so quickly that it almost seems like you’re only there for yourself and the company you represent (duh). By the time you leave, you forget everything that happened except for a handful of business cards that have little to no value because you worried more about your business than feeding business to a person you just met. I know, in the long run there may be a referral, but there are no guarantees. Only fate will provide that answer. All in all, as a first networking experience, this was new and I will only learn to grow and learn from this experience.
The second thing that happened was the first CrossFit Throw Down of The CrossFit Open for 2014, called, 14.1. Our very own Alex Ngui, has been into CrossFit training for 7 months and is loving every bit of it. This style of workout will influence his fitness classes (www.bamboohealth.ca/fitness). The workout consisted of 30 repetitions of Double Unders (passing the skipping rope underneath you twice in one jump) and 15 repetitions of Snatches (gripping a 75/55lb lifting bar with a wide grip and “flinging” it above your in a High-V fashion). You are required to do these two simple exercises, but excruciating workout, in 10 minutes; mind you, it’s as many rounds of the Double Unders and Snatches as possible in 10 minutes. Alex loved, the atmosphere, the drive, the competition, the support, and the luxury to attend the Open. His score was in the middle where he wanted to be; his goal was aiming for 4 to 5 rounds, and he had a total repetition count of 185 reps (4 rounds plus 5 Double Unders). Next week Friday, March 7, 2014 will be the 2nd of 5 workouts, for the Open. No one knows what the workout format till the night before. See future blogs for an update on the Open.
Lastly, yesterday, I had the pleasure to present Acupuncture and fitness to a group of people at a Chinese Association in Toronto yesterday. Being able to talk in front of a group of people like this, is is nervous for a lot of people, even for me. But Today I felt like I was on top of my game. I knew what I was talking about and the presentation and answers I presented flew out of my mouth like I had done this before (it was my second time). The jist of the presentation was preventative and lifestyle of Acupuncture and fitness. I won’t go into detail of what I talked about, but the experience was gratifying, and I knew the material. I can only get better and alter my presentation for the future. Maybe I’ll come up with a new presentation all together. Afterwards I was presented with a bouquet of flowers.
